New Transplant‎ Statistics Encouraging

On Sept. 9, Canadian Blood Services (CBS) alongside partners in the Canadian Organ Donation and Transplant Network released a report detailing a decade of information on national organ donation and transplantation.‎ The Organ Donation and Transplantation in Canada: System Progress Report 2006–2015 includes the most current Canadian statistics on deceased and living donation and transplantation performance.

"It is encouraging to see a 23% increase in the number of transplants in Canada and measurable growth in the national deceased donation rate since 2006," said Kidney Foundation National Executive Director Elizabeth Myles.

The Alport Syndrome Foundation (ASF), Pedersen Family, and The Kidney Foundation of Canada (KFOC) Research Funding Program are pleased to announce that joint funding has been awarded for two new research projects on Alport Syndrome, a rare genetic kidney disease.

The Kidney Foundation of Canada is pleased to announce prolific scientist and renowned transplant researcher Dr. Marie-Josée Hébert of Montreal as the recipient of the 2016 Medal for Research Excellence. Dr. Hébert’s major research focus is related to the pivotal role of renal fibrosis in chronic kidney disease and transplant rejection.
