Start the New Year off Right and Become a Blue Builder
Have you ever thought about taking something you love, and turning it into an event or activity to benefit The Kidney Foundation?
Community based fundraising, sometimes called third party fundraising, are events organized by volunteers that benefit The Kidney Foundation of Canada, often with little involvement from the Foundation.
Blue Builders, as we affectionately call our third party organizers, help build a strong Kidney Foundation. The Kidney Foundation has information and tips to make planning your unique event a success on our website: Blue Builder . When you become a blue builder you are taking steps to help build our Foundation and expand our capacity to fund innovative research that continues to provide better treatment options, earlier detection and programs and services for individuals already living with kidney disease.
Throughout Ontario dozens of events are organized by teams of volunteers and they benefit The Kidney Foundation. They can range from ball hockey tournaments to golf tournaments, running races and more! Here are just a few highlights from the recent past.
Team Garber’s Halloween Haunted House
Mitch Garber has turned his love for Halloween into an annual fundraiser, raising funds to benefit The Kidney Foundation. Congratulations to the Garber’s and their many supporters for raising over $5000 in 2016!
The Riverside Rebels Halloween Fun Run
The Riverside school community in Windsor, also takes Halloween fun to a new level. The run, organized by the schools Leadership class, is an annual tradition spanning sixteen years. Over the years the school has supported various charities including the Canadian Cancer Society, Liver Foundation, Do Good Divas and of course The Kidney Foundation. 2016 marked the 10th time The Kidney Foundation benefited from the run, and we have gratefully accepted over $40,000 from this amazing community of supporters.
Lumi’s Dental Hygiene Care
For the last two year’s Lumi’s Dental Hygiene Care, in Kitchener hosted one day charity events to benefit The Kidney Foundation of Canada. The charity day, held in memory of Lumi’s mom who had only one kidney, offered dental cleaning with significant reductions with all proceeds from the day being directed to The Kidney Foundation. Over the last two years Lumi has contributed $2000 to The Kidney Foundaiton.
Organ Donor Swim
The inaugural organ donor swim raised over $10,000 to support camp experiences for kids. Six swimmers, many current or former competitive triathletes swam across Lake Muskoka in July. Ricky Jacobs and his team of volunteers and supporters not only organized the swim and raised a substantial gift for The Kidney Foundation, but in the process they passionately raised awareness of living organ donation.
