Kidney Kamp for Kids

Easter Seals Camp Horizon, near Bragg Creek
August 4-9, 2019

The Kidney Kamp for Kids is a joint venture between Alberta Children’s Hospital in Calgary and the Kidney Foundation of Canada, Northern Alberta and the Territories Branch, with each centre providing approximately half of the campers. The goal of Easter Seals Camp Horizon is to provide a high-quality camping experience that facilitates personal growth through outdoor pursuits and recreation opportunities. The camp provides one staff member for every two to three children. Three nurses will also be present to attend to the medical needs/medications of the campers.

Due to limited space, and the overwhelming interest in camp, sending in an application does not guarantee a spot at camp. Many families ask how we prioritize which campers are accepted. The Stollery Pediatric Nephrology team reviews applications and they choose to take kidney transplant patients first, then children with end-stage kidney disease. Then we look at children with medication which alters their physical appearance. And last, but definitely not least, we invite children with urological/incontinence problems. We try very hard every year to take every one invited.
