Priorities | Innovative Patient Services and Support

In 2006, The Kidney Foundation’s BC Branch along with local partners piloted the first Living Organ Donor Expense Reimbursement Program.

It helped cover accommodation, transportation and other out-of-pocket expenses incurred by any individual who took on the commitment of going through testing for organ donation to a loved one - or a stranger.

Today, this program exists in one form or another in almost every province across the country. Providing this kind of patient service based on sound public policy is how we serve our constituents.

Whether it’s offering peer support programs, or ensuring a child on dialysis can experience the joy of summer camp, The Kidney Foundation is acting nationally and locally to reach out to the members of our community according to their needs.

We’ve been doing so for nearly 50 years, but as the population ages, and people die while on the waiting list for a kidney transplant, we know there is so much more to be done, starting now, starting with us – and you, and the New Challenge Campaign.
