The Gavin Turley Scholarship for Civic Engagement

Since its inception in 1964, The Kidney Foundation of Canada has been dedicated to reducing the burden of kidney disease. This work has taken many forms over the years and enormous strides have been made. Kidney research, and the application of findings through community programs and services, has directly and positively impacted the lives of renal patients and their families.

The Foundation’s leadership and successes have been made possible thanks to the contribution of numerous volunteers and staff from communities throughout the country, each united by a common vision. A cornerstone of the Foundation’s philosophy is that the knowledge, skills and competencies needed to truly engage people in collaborative efforts to address complex health issues, can be greatly enhanced by providing unique personal and professional leadership opportunities.

Gavin Turley was National Executive Director of
The Kidney Foundation of Canada from 1993 to 2008

Gavin Turley, a major proponent of this philosophy, retired from The Kidney Foundation of Canada in July 2008 after 15 years of service as the National Executive Director. His professional career spanned more than 40 years in Canada’s voluntary sector. It was marked by a constant commitment to initiatives aimed at strengthening the community and organizational leadership abilities of volunteers and staff. It is in view of this hallmark of spirit and dedication that the National Board of Directors established The Gavin Turley Scholarship for Civic Engagement.
