The River City Big Band and Maria Manna Honour Albertans Affected by Kidney Disease and Transplantation with a Special Tribute to Natalie Cole Performance
February-15-18 5:00:00 PM

The River City Big Band presents Jazz at The Oasis featuring the talented Maria Manna in an evening dedicated to Albertans affected by Kidney Disease and Transplantation. The River City Big Band, Maria Manna and The Oasis Centre are donating a portion of the proceeds to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, Northern Alberta & the Territories Branch, to support the programs we deliver including the annual Kidney Kamp for Kids.

Maria is a vocalist/producer/actor, humanitarian, philanthropist, business owner, author and Ordained Minister. She has helped raise over $750 million for charities with her performances and fundraising.  In 1990, Maria was inducted into the Music Archives of Alberta as the first Italian Canadian female to record in Alberta.

In Alberta, approximately 530 children are affected by kidney disease and require either hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis treatment to stay alive as they awaits for a potential kidney transplant.  Kidney Kamp for Kids provides a unique, medically-supervised environment where children can just be kids, but does not create a financial burden for families.  The cost to send 30 children with kidney disease to camp for one week is $30,000 - $35,000, which is coverage by the Foundation and through donations.

"Singing the tunes from Natalie Cole's 'Unforgettable' and 'Take a Look' albums backed by the River City Big Band is a thrill and making it a fundraiser for the Kidney Foundation is icing on the cake!", notes Maria.

“Working towards a future where everyone who needs a transplant gets a transplant is at the core of our work” says Flavia Robles, Executive Director of Kidney Foundation.  “This event by the River City Big Band and Maria Manna helps to raise critical awareness of kidney disease while their contribution ensures the Kidney Foundation can provide Albertans with the tools and services they require until they receive their gift of life.”

Joining Maria on stage for a one “dream come true” performance will be 9 year old Quin, a 2017 Kidney Kamp for Kids participant, who is “unbelievably excited” to be part of this event.
