Information & Referral

For most people living with kidney disease, a family doctor or kidney doctor (nephrologist) will provide information about the various options for treating kidney failure. The kidney care team often consists of a range of professionals including doctors, nurses, social workers and dietitians, and includes support from The Kidney Foundation of Canada.

The Kidney Foundation of Canada is committed to providing education about kidneys and kidney disease.  Produced and distributed free-of-charge by the Kidney Foundation of Canada, the brochures and the manual Living with Kidney Disease contain comprehensive information on treatment options, diet, exercise and lifestyle specifically developed for people with kidney failure.

Even with these resources, many people can still find themselves overwhelmed when they are first diagnosed. For some individuals, it can be difficult to find answers to all the questions and issues they are facing. The Kidney Foundation is available to help by:

  • Offering advice and support on accessing services within the health care system
  • Assisting people to access other community supports and resources as appropriate
  • Offering assistance in developing skills for self advocacy
